We are a team of highly experienced software professionals with a shared desire to use our skills in software development and our understanding of data to make a positive difference in the world.
We come from diverse backgrounds and have worked together for many years. We are fortunate to have benefitted from many opportunities in our careers so far and want to help others get on and make their own positive difference.
On our website we have tried to give you a feel for the skills and services we offer alongside our values and the types of software we've developed before, to help you decide if we are worth getting in touch with.
Our Story
Inspired by researchers' desire to advance knowledge and improve lives, we have come together to use our unique know-how and ways of working, developed in research and in industry, to deliver solutions to complex problems.
Prior to forming, we worked together leading teams of software developers to deliver software solutions that were used to support the operations and scientific endeavours at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK.
Whilst working together we regularly had to adapt and try new things to attract and retain the software developers we needed to work with to create great science. However, we realised that certain challenges we were increasingly facing could not be addressed in the same ways as before. We enjoyed working with each other and wanted to continue working with each other and our other colleagues. We also wanted to make an even bigger impact and decided to pool our collective experience, skills, knowledge and understanding, to form Research Bees.
Our Principles
From the outset we formulated the principles and values that would guide us as a company. They are based on the successful ways we've worked before so they didn't take long to agree and we are confident they will stand the test of time.
We believe everyone can make a positive difference in the world. In trying things out we believe we can begin to make real change happen.
We are also led by the principle that people should be kind to each other, no question is stupid, and we have a slightly cocky belief that we can help tackle any problem (in at least some small way).
We care for each other personally, and value fairness and opportunity. We learn from last time, are open, honest, and reliable, and pride ourselves in seeing the bigger picture.
We will bring our guiding principles and values with us when we work with you. And just in case you were wondering, once we've started something, we want to see it through - that's just who we are. We want the best for you and your team and want you all to succeed.
Our History
Research Bees Ltd was founded in 2022. It is registered in the United Kingdom as a Private Limited Company.
From the beginning we knew we wanted to serve more than just our shareholders. We know you want to make things better and we want to help you. We have ambitious ideals of how our company can be a force for good and plan to develop as an organisation so we can apply for B Corp Certification in our first few years of operating.
Our name comes from the fact Hannah (one of the founders) likes bees (she has supported the Bumblebee Conservation Trust for over 10 years) and was born in Manchester, UK (read the story behind the Manchester bee).
