Case Studies

As a start-up we thought you might like to know a little bit more about our team members' experiences to date. We hope this helps you get a feel for the kind of work we've done before.

Scientific Software

From harvesting requirements in a highly changeable environment and developing software for complex geometry representation to prototyping scientific workflows and in many cases targeting HPC infrastructures, we are lucky to have individuals who have made significant contributions to software related to the data streaming architecture (Kafka) and management of “Big Data” for national scientific facilities as well as knowledge and experience of a range of data reduction and analysis algorithms.

Web Applications

Between us we have developed a wide range of web-based systems over the years from the management of defective material in the manufacturing process, to digitising direct debit and standing order forms and a just-in-time printing tool for a small publishing company.

We are privileged to have coordinated and undertaken work necessary to deliver business software solutions to improve the flow and accessibility of information relating to the management of access to scientific research facilities and their operations

From processes that have parallels in my industries such as authentication systems, systems to manage accommodation and travel for visitors to online tests linked to access control and systems for assessing experiment and sample safety, we are experienced working with a range of customers to meet their requirements.

Controls and Instrumentation

With exposure to the development and decision-making surrounding the creation and installation of various control systems, we have individuals who have had multi-faceted roles involving  software architecture, instrumentation/detector design, project management and customer relationship management building distributed control systems to operate devices such as particle accelerators, and large experiments.

Diagnostics

Working with engineers of many disciplines including diagnostics in the automotive and manufacturing industries, we have experience maintaining existing client-side diagnostic systems and developing new tools that leverage and sync to the cloud. Many of the team have had roles where they have got involved at many, if not all, stages of a project. For example both database schema design as well as implementing a security layer to protect an embedded application runtime on open hardware.

SharePoint and M365

Having project managed and been lead developers on various SharePoint rationalisation and installation projects over the years, we have experience with on-premise versions of SharePoint and are also experienced in the ever-growing suite of Microsoft 365 (M365 previously known as Office 365 or O365) including SharePoint Online. We are pleased to have individuals who have defined and delivered on the strategy to make best use of the M365 environment in the context of a large enterprise.

Digital Strategy and Leadership

We have experience setting strategy and roadmaps at different levels within an organisation. From the direction of whole divisions (80+ people) and groups (30+ people) to guiding teams, large (10+ people) and small (2-5 people) we have developed and delivered on many strategies. From bespoke software products and infrastructure (network & virtualization environments), to strategies for staff recruitment and career development, from moving legacy software products to a microservices based architecture (including moving into an orchestrated containerised environment) to delivering a continuous improvement programme for infrastructure and the IT support of hundreds of staff.

Security

With experience in security testing at a security evaluation laboratory, we have individuals who have set up and developed test and measurement harnesses used for data collection. Supporting security analysts with any engineering requests and trained in Common Criteria evaluation individuals have also been involved with research tasks and writing working practice documents. From cybersecurity strategy to make sure organisations are protected against an increasingly hostile environment to software that assists in the smooth running of your physical and virtual security processes, we have a diverse portfolio of where we have experience of building security into projects both in legacy/existing systems and from the ground up.

Software Best Practices

As technical discipline leads within the companies we’ve worked in, we have established processes for successful software development, software quality assurance and standardisation. We have aligned software best practices with organisational objectives to ensure efficiency and quality in the delivery of software outputs.

We have experience overseeing and directly contributing to all software development and DevOps efforts from architectural design, requirements gathering all the way through to making hands-on code contributions and managing releases.

Experienced in introducing enterprise software working practices into teams and organisations including agile development (e.g. Scrum, Kanban) and continuous integration, we also love working closely with colleagues to help them develop professionally and helping them introduce new ways of working into their teams too.
